The Fourth of July has a Double Meaning for Me

Written By:  Andrew Eide

When I was a child growing up in the 1950’s and 1960’s the Fourth of July was a day to review the history, freedoms, and independence of the United States of America. However as I have aged and the leadership of our country has worked harder to destroy the United States than to preserve it I’ve lost my excitement for celebrating on the Fourth of July.

The other reason the Fourth of July has a special meaning for me, and it is the reason I would prefer to celebrate, is that my sister’s husband, my brother in-law, Felix Hernandez, was born on July 4th so this is a day for me to celebrate his birthday.

Becx & Keira enjoy going out to celebrate things such as New Year’s Eve and Fourth of July. With me though with so much commercialism, expenses to attend events, getting home late, and just not excited about celebrating a once great country that is now the laughingstock of the world, just doesn’t appeal to me.

Happy Birthday Felix!
